Andy's Back Surgery
On the same weekend that Aidan had to go to the hospital, Andy woke up with really bad pain in his back/leg. It had been bothering him, but not that bad. I took him to urgent care and they gave the usual meds. Took those for a week, and it did not help like it had in the past. We started having suspicions that something more may be up. He followed up with his regular doctor, had an MRI and found out that it was a problem with a disc. Went to a surgeon on the following Monday (roughly 2 weeks after the initial visit), and learned that it had already ruptured and surgery was the only option. Didn't expect that so fast! To make things even more of a whirlwind, the surgery was scheduled for Thursday of that same week (4/29). We were glad to get it so early because we wanted to get it behind us, but it was a little strange trying to think through everything in such a short period of time. I think it helped us both not to get too upset or worried because we didn't have time!!! Fortunately, all went well, and Andy had immediate relief from the pain in his leg. Aidan had to spend the night with Nana and Pop Pop which he loved!!! This was his first time spending the night away from us! We had explained everything to him the night before, and he was so cute. He knew Dada's back had been hurt and he asked if he was going to the doctor to get new batteries for his back!!!! Andy came home the next day, and continues to improve every day. I think it worked out best for him that it all happened so quickly because there wasn't much time for permanent nerve damage. He is doing great, and goes back for his 3 week follow up on the 20th. I am so glad things have gone so smoothly, and Aidan can't wait to ride on Dada's shoulders again! (He asks almost daily!)
