July Beach Trip

At the end of July we went to the beach for a long weekend. It was a much needed break and we all had a fantastic time. I honestly think it is the first time I have ever been to the beach, and just flat out did not want to come home! We went on Thursday afternoon and stayed until Sunday. The place we stayed at had a pool and a playground, so Aidan was in heaven! We actually had some problems getting him to do stuff because all he wanted to do was play on the playground. Ended up being the perfect place for him!

On the way down we stopped at Wilbur's to get a sandwich and hushpuppies. The BBQ was right on that day, and we stuffed ourselves. Aidan filled up on hushpuppies and was happy as could be. After eating, the downpours came. It poured rain all the way from Goldsboro to the beach. It lengthened the drive considerably, but it wasn't as bad as it could have been. We always stop at Neuse Sports Shop, so of course, we got soaked trying to get in from the car. Naturally, they had the AC blaring and we were all freezing!

By the time we got to the beach and checked in, it had pretty much stopped so we let Aidan check out the playground before supper. He filled up on flounder at Sanitary and then had blue ice cream for dessert. Yuck! :)

On Friday we spent some time on the beach, and Aidan got to fly his kite for the first time. Then more time in the pool and on the playground. We went to El's drive in for lunch. Andy always gets the shrimp burger, but Aidan and I stick with a burger, hotdog and fries. :) There are always a lot of seagulls sitting in the parking lot waiting to be fed. One guy started feeding them fries, so they flew up onto his hood and started eating out of his hand. Definitely domesticated!Later that night we had Outback for supper and came back to hang out in the pool. Aidan stayed in there for an hour and a half and the only reason we were able to get him out was because it was getting dark outside. He loved it! We drove around to see the boats on the waterfront, and Aidan thought that was pretty cool.

Saturday was more time in the pool and on the playground, and then to the fort. Aidan was quite cute because he kept calling it a fork! He still calls it a fork! We tried to emphasize the 't' but it just didn't work. Someone had told Andy about the huge "hurricane" doors the "visitor" center had. They are literally huge and were probably extremely expensive. I am pretty sure they will do the trick though! We went to Beaufort to get pizza and pasta for lunch. If you can believe it, I went without makeup and with a hat on. I have NEVER done this before! Not that I am vain or wear a lot of makeup, I just don't leave the house without it. Honestly, I did it for Aidan. If we had gone back to the hotel so I could "get ready" it would have put us eating lunch much later than Aidan needed. Not going to make a habit out of it, but I survived! Aidan, of course, wanted ice cream again so we went to Dairy Queen. We all indulged, and then went back to the hotel for a nap! We went to Clawson's for supper, and it was so good! Aidan was a little "active" while we were there, but he was still good.

I love to play putt putt, and Aidan loves to play with his clubs so we went to play after supper. We all had a good time, but Aidan got really tired. I don't think we got back to the hotel until around 10 which is very late for us. We don't usually venture out after dark!!!!

Sunday we went to the aquarium so Aidan could see the otters. He was very excited and had to take his otter with him. The power went out while we were there and it took a few minutes for it to come back on, so we pretty much just rushed out. A little creepy being in there without lights! We came home on Sunday, and none of us were ready. We had such a good break, and didn't want it to end. Can't wait for the next one!
