State Fair

This year Mer and Ashley were able to come down to visit and go to the fair with us.  We love spending time with them.  The original plan was to get up early and be at the fair when the gates opened.  Well, it was spider day at school and Aidan could not miss it, so we had to wait until he got out.  Just hope this love of school lasts for the next 13+ years!

For some reason Aidan had these grand ideas in his head about how awesome Spider Day was going to be.  The teachers were even a little concerned that they wouldn't be able to live up to his expectations!  We made spider pop corn bags for all the kids to take home.

And then we made these really cute spider cups with trail mix for special snack.  Aidan really liked helping put these together and was super tickled when he got to school.

The star of the show of course, was the spider.  We had been watching this writing spider for weeks, and Aidan wanted to take it on Spider Day.  Even though Mrs. Joann does not like spiders any more than I do, she did think the kids would think it was cool.  So we captured her the night before in a jar prepared by Nana.  She put holes in the top and put some sticks in there for her to make a web.  She survived the night and day at school and was a big hit with the kids.  They all wanted to let her out of the jar!!!

After all of the spider stuff was over, we picked Aidan up and went to the fair.

He is an "expert" at the dart throwing game, so we let him do that for a guaranteed prize.  He really likes it and I think it is because he is so good at it.
They sucker us into this one every year, but we haven't won yet.  Shooting the water on the target.  Aidan and I both did it this year, so I thought for sure one of us would win.  No, we just wasted twice as much money!
Testing out the dog toys.  That thing wouldn't last 5 minutes with Drake and Major!
Ashley loves owls, so we had to get her picture with the real one.

 Trying out Ashley's glasses
Taking a break for funnel cake.  Aidan isn't really into a lot of sweet stuff, but he does like funnel cake.

This was supposed to be a family pic with Smokey, but you can see how long that lasted with Aidan.
So we have a pic with just me and Andy and smokey.  :)

Like most of the kids there, if Aidan rang this bell once, he rang it 10 times.  We had to drag him away from it.  Really cool the first couple of times, but.............

He rode the ponies last year but was a little hesitant and I had to walk around with him.  This year, he never slowed down and didn't even have to think twice.  Put him up there, and he was fine on his own.  He was really tired by this time, and you could tell that he was completely relaxed on that horse.  If it had lasted much longer, he probably would have fallen asleep!
 Prize pumpkins
Yoda and Darth Vader made from apples!!!!
Pics of River, somehow missed getting the one of Max on here.  Sweet puppies!
