July 4th Weekend

Over the 4th we had a good long, relaxing, uneventful weekend. We went up to Andy's mom and dad's and really didn't do too much (which is great!). On Friday we went to Boone to do some shopping and ate at Pizza Hut. I don't know why that was such a big deal to me, but it was! I was a little embarassed when we left because the floor was covered in Cheerios and pizza crumbs! On Saturday we just hung out around the house, and Aidan and I were able to sneak in a nap. A 2 and a half hour nap! It was wonderful! Andy's mom has wanted a quilt square for their barn for a long time, and it finally came that day. Mer was the designer (so many talents! :) ). Here are a few pics:

Aidan also got his first taste of ice cream! He wasn't quite sure what to think at first, but then he really liked it!

That night we went over to Mark's mom and dad's for a cookout. It had been rainy that day, but cleared up just in time. Aidan was good and seemed to enjoy himself. The temps were unbelievable! Almost more like fall than summer. Unfortunately, we didn't get any pictures.

Sunday we went this place called Genesis that rescues animals and rehabilitates them. It is always interesting to go see what animals they have. They had some birds, owls, hawks, a bobcat, raccoons, rabbits, etc. Aidan wasn't excessively interested, but he did seem intrigued by the skunks and the ducks because they were roaming around in the open. When we were leaving we turned around to see the ducks one more time, and there was a raccoon just walking around like he owned the place! Very cute!

You can't see him very well, but this is the bobcat. He is laying on top of a ledge in the center of the pic.

When we left there we went to Andy's dad's 85th birthday party. It was nice, and the food was good! Aidan got to taste cake frosting, but fortunately, he didn't get a sugar high! He ended up sleeping the whole way home!
